Sustainable Urbanism

Cities in South Asia are impacted by rapid urbanization causing issues such as air pollution, deforestation, shrinking of green areas and land degradation. There is a lack of sustainable transportation facilities overall to cater the needs of an increasing population. Instead of investing into sustainable public transportation, cities tend to make room for more cars instead by expanding roads which is damaging the ecological balance in cities.

In Pakistan work on urban issues is a very recent phenomenon with very few dedicated think tanks to inform policy making. Against this backdrop, the Institute of Urbanism Welfare Trust is working on strengthening the awareness about the need for prudent policies on urban issues (primarily environmental).
